Comment:
Pollen grain in a faecal preperation stained with Iodine. They may be confused with Taenia eggs but are only 15 - 20 microns wide often are tri-lobed as in this slide and are thick walled symmetrical structures that stain very darkly with Iodine. Care must be taken in attributing the presence of a organism to symptoms eg. Spores of Henneguya salminicola (Myxozoa) which resemble human sperm have been reported in faeces but they are due to accidental ingestion with the fish - not due to sexual abuse (McClelland et al. 1997 J Clin Microbiol 35: 2815-18).
